Bog Wildflowers in northern Chile:        Lauca National Park

Flora of Chile

Native plants of the bogs

One simple bog in the altiplano of Lauca Park, 4,400 masl, in December.  Seeming unremarkable......easy to drive by without noticing a thing......but take a few steps, and there it is at your feet:  a world of tiny gems, exquisite treasures.  Genera include Astragalus, Werneria, Hypochaeris, Eudema, Gentiana, Hypsela, Arenaria, Senecio, Ranunculus, Jaborosa, Xenophyllum, Calandrinia, (not all pictured here).

Parinacota Bog at the beginning of "Bolivian Winter" in December.
